Arabic Initial String Art {Tutorial}
I’ve been wanting to try string art for while because it just looks like so much fun to do. I thought I would try it with the letter meem, the 24th letter in the Arabic alphabet.
Supplies
12×9 inch wood board
Meem computer printout
Hammer
Embroidery thread
Tape

This past weekend I found a board at my local thrift shop that already had a backing and I knew the time was perfect to try this craft.
When I brought the board home, it looked like this.

After a few coats of white paint, I managed to finally get rid of the black, loving dog.

Then I painted the white with a pretty duochrome oceanic green watercolor. After it dried, I taped down my meem cut out and started nailing. I started on the end, placing a nail down on it’s side to use as a sizer of where to place the next nail.

After a few rounds of “oww” and “ouch” my husband asked what I was doing. I told him that this tiny nails were impossible to hold. He suggested using pliers. Genius!

I outlined the whole letter with nails and then took off the paper and tape.

I then went around the border of the board and placed nails about one inch apart.

Once it was all finished, I tied one end of the embroidery thread onto a nail. I put in three knots to be safe.

I then started the outline of the border and the inside of the letter.
