Felt Khatam Bookmark {Tutorial}

This felt khatam bookmark was so easy to make, my daughter borrowed my camera and did this Ramadan craft tutorial herself. She got her sister to help, in a team effort to give me a day off on Mother’s Day.
Khatam is the Arabic word for 8 point star. The shape is very common in Islamic architecture.
If you do not have a khatam shaped punch, you can make your own template by cutting out two identical pieces of cardstock, then offsetting them before gluing them together.
Supplies
- Felt
- Khatam punch
- Cardstock
- Buttons
- Scissors
- Paint
- Craft sticks
- Paintbrush
- Fabric glue

My daughter use the punch to cut out two khatam paper shapes, then used the scissors to make one smaller. She used them as a template to cut out several felt khatam shapes.

She set aside the felt shapes and painted the craft sticks in different colors.

After the craft sticks were dry, my daughter used the fabric glue to first glue a larger khatam shape to the craft stick, then a smaller shape, and finally a button.

Now her felt khatam shaped bookmark is done and ready to gift. They are so easy to make, she created a few of them to also give out to our neighbors.
