Decoupage Camel Gift Wrap {Tutorial}

Thanksgiving is all about sharing food but COVID19 has put a hold on this holiday so we are sending food in our place. We added a decoupage camel to the outside box that came with the special olive oil we ordered.
Decoupage is the art of decorating an object by gluing cutouts to it. The origin of decoupage is from East Siberian when people used cut felt to decorate the tombs. The art form traveled across China where gold leaf and colored paper were added to objects in the home. It became popular in Italy when churchs used decoupage to decorate religious depictions on furniture, book covers and boxes.
My youngest daughter helped with this craft. I understand that not many parents are okay with letting a child use an Xacto knife, however, with proper instructions and supervision, a child can learn to use and respect all tools.This not only teaches the child learn to be confident, it also gives them the ability to help their peers in class when this tool is introduced, as they will most likely already have picked up that trait at home.
Supplies
- Arabic book
- Sponge brush
- Fine tip pen
- Xacto
- Mod Podge
- Camel stencil
- Wood cylinder olive oil gift box

Place the camel stencil on the Arabic piece of paper and outline the design.

Use the Xacto knife to carefully cut out the camel.

Use the Xacto to cut a wavy line across another piece of paper. Lay the landscape down, determine where you want the camel to stand and attach the two pieces of paper with Mod Podge. Add more Mod Podge to the rest of the paper to attach it to the gift box.

Add a generous layer of Mod Podge to the wood box.

Gently pick up the camel and landscape, it should be limp from the wetness of the Mod Podge, and add it to the wood box. Add another layer of Mod Podge to the entire box.

Wait a few days, then add another layer of Mod Podge. Now the gift is ready to be sent.
